Latest Post. Popular Posts. Alura Jenson Wiki, Bio, Age, Height, Weight, Net Worth, and Body Measurement December 07, I am interested in how my emotions influence the ways in which I sleep.
Emotion can be experienced subconsciously, which is the space in which I am studying. SO I have decided to create a new ritual that is meant to document my movements during sleep.
When I am ready to go to bed, I undress, cover a piece of canvas in graphite, and lay down to sleep on that canvas. I then wake up in the morning, clean myself of the black powder, and carry out my day.
The two ways I have thought of are either covering my body in a drawing or painting material and sleeping on a blank canvas, or covering a canvas in a drawing or painting material and sleeping on the canvas with the material that sticks to my body making the drawing on the canvas.
Due to the duration of hours per night, I figured paint would dry and be an unlikely candidate. I then landed on powdered graphite, and I decided to cover the canvas and see where my body smudged and picked up the graphite because I figured that not only would the canvas be evidence and a drawing of my body but also where the graphite is stuck to my body gives an idea of where I was frequently making contact while sleeping.
For the first couple nights of my ritual, I was sprinkling graphite on the canvas, and seeing where my body moved it around.
After observing that effect, I decided it would work much better to coat the canvas entirely in graphite and see where my body picked up the graphite, creating a subtractive body drawing.
I had to design my ritual in a way that would be communicated to the viewer through my artifact. I am attempting to redefine the body from the model to the maker, and explore what bodily emotions are capable of.
I also thought after my feedback that creating more of a story could have helped me out. I could have done this by having 10 separate canvases and sleeping one night on each.
Last, I think it would have improved my overall presentation of my ritual and artifact if I had shown some more of my progress pictures, and photos like the one above, where my skin is covered in graphite.
My name is Sara and I am in my third year at CU majoring in TAM as well as Fine Arts. So, to illustrate this superpower, during our class activity, I made myself a pair of glasses.
I am taking this class because I have always been interested in immersive experiences. Particularly, I am intrigued by the general human experience, and how different it can be on the micro level, but how similar it can be on the macro level.
What I would like to get out of this class is to find better footing in combining fine arts and technological tools, as well as more experience with creating immersive and thought provoking art pieces.
We experimented a lot with material, and process to create our end product, which in my mind is a mere iteration of a project that could be continued and further explored.
Phil and I knew that we wanted to work together for this project, and we knew that we wanted to stray away from the typical game, like we made for our midterm project.
We started our ideation and we landed on lasers, lights, and fog. Phil and I both wanted to incorporate ultra sonic sensors to change the experience, and ultimately we landed on what was executed in our project, lights, lasers and fog.
The interaction comes in when the viewer comes closer to the sculpture, the lasers move more rapidly and the lights randomly change colors faster, in synch with the lasers.
Due to the fact that I double major with TAM, and Studio Arts with a focus in sculpture, I volunteered to weld a unique enclosure — pushing the boundary of the typical laser cut wood.
We wanted to make it complex enough that once we had a reflective surface on the outside, the lasers would bounce off of the angled enclosure to create a visually interesting outcome.
Phil and I had some very specific expectations of this project, so it was pretty easy to figure out all of the hardware we would need.
Due to some experimentation in a different class, I knew that we could attach two degree servo motors to each other and attach our lasers to those in order to get the range of motion that we desired from them.
We also needed two ultra sonic sensors to sense how near or far the viewer was, and last, we had lots of left over neopixels from our last project to use for this project.
To test the logic for our final outcome, Phil and I wired up one neopixel strip, a slider potentiometer, and two servo motors.
We wrote a basic code outlining four preset positions for the servos, and random values for the colors of the neopixels that would change along with the servo positions.
After we had all of our hardware hooked up and ready to go, it was time to get the code logic working how we wanted it to.
Since we had made the test run using the potentiometer, we basically applied that code, just using the logic for ultra sonic sensors instead.
So, we started out by reading in the pule duration from the ultra sonic sensors, and then the code went into the movement and changes based on that.
We set it up with a series of if statements figuring out how long the pulses were from the ultra sonic sensors, and given a certain range the speed of the motions and the light colors would change.
After that Phil and I had nailed down the coding, hardware, and basic frame for the enclosure, it was time to put it all together and put on all of the finishing touches to the sculpture.
Phil and my original idea for the outer reflective layer of the enclosure was to cut mirrors and use that. We bought all of the mirror we would need as well as a glass cutter, but when we began attempting to cut the mirror in the shapes that we needed, it ended up shattering.
After this, Phil and I were back at square one as far as reflective surfaces. With no luck, we moved on to the Target thinking we might be able to find some silver wrapping paper.
Because we were only able to find silver wrapping paper that had Santa or snowflakes all over them, we were yet again back to the drawing board.
We ended up buying some gold super shiny plates, and classic aluminum foil. Once we started cutting the foil and attaching it to the frame, we decided it went with our aesthetic pretty well!
